Deuterium-Depleted Water
Deuterium-depleted water, also known as “living water” or “light water,” is water in which deuterium is found in a lower concentration than in ordinary water.
What is Deuterium-Depleted Water?
Deuterium-depleted water, also known as “living water” or “light water,” is water in which deuterium is found in a lower concentration than in ordinary water. The average deuterium level in ordinary water is 150 parts per million, or a ratio of 1 deuterium atom to 6,400 hydrogen atoms.
The deuterium content of surface waters in Romania’s climate zone is 150 ppm (parts per million), with minimal fluctuations. Waters in the equatorial zone contain 155 ppm deuterium, while waters in northern Canada contain 135–140 ppm deuterium. The amount of deuterium measured in the water of a given geographical region is directly proportional to the deuterium concentration in the organisms living in that region.
In the 1960s, in the former Soviet Union, researchers studied two populations, in two different regions, whose members reached very advanced ages and were very healthy. Their lifestyle habits, including their eating habits, were very different, but they had one thing in common: both populations drank glacier water. The distinctive feature of the water from those glaciers, compared with ordinary water, was its low deuterium content, as it had formed tens of thousands of years ago.
In children and young people, the amount of gas dissolved in the body is four times lower than in adults. The explanation is that as we age, the water inside the body ages too and retains residues and gases. If we could replace the “polluted” water inside the body with pure water, we could give ourselves a better and healthier life. Deuterium-depleted water can help purify the body.
Reducing the Body’s Deuterium Concentration
Reducing the amount of deuterium in the body means replacing the body’s normal water, which has a deuterium content of 150 parts per million, with water with a low deuterium content.
The most effective method for lowering the amount of deuterium in the body is the direct consumption of deuterium-depleted water.
It is now known that reducing the amount of deuterium in the body has numerous beneficial effects, such as: slowing down the aging process, strengthening the immune system, and an antioxidant effect.
Scientific Research
The biological effects of deuterium-depleted water have been investigated in a series of studies carried out on plants, animals and humans and published in scientific journals. In short, these effects can be grouped as follows:
- Experiments carried out on plants showed an increase in productivity, for example an increase of 56% in the case of wheat and 25% in the case of cucumbers and radishes.
- Experiments carried out on samples of hens exposed to radiation showed a reduction in the mortality rate of up to 50% and an increase in the number of eggs laid in the samples that drank deuterium-depleted water.
The mechanisms driving these biological effects are little understood and probably have to do with the changes that occur when deuterium interferes with the nuclear structures and the structures of cellular enzymes, caused by the replacement of deuterium bonds with hydrogen bonds, which are more favorable to the efficient functioning of living cells.
Benefits of Deuterium-Depleted Water
Scientific research indicates that the aging process is correlated with the gradual accumulation of errors in DNA, errors that arise as a result of the DNA replication process. It is therefore logical to consider the factors that have a negative impact on DNA and to explore the effects of removing them from the cellular environment. New research indicates that, although largely ignored, deuterium oxide (water containing deuterium) may play a key role in the aging process, especially when coupled with various types of radiation and other mutagenic factors.
Deuterium affects the shape of the enzyme molecules involved in DNA replication and repair processes. Research has shown that reducing the amount of deuterium diminishes the number and type of changes undergone by the enzymes and therefore reduces their negative effects on the processes in which DNA is involved. Deuterium in fact acts as a catalyst in the degradation of DNA, especially when coupled with exposure to radiation.
The body has the ability to eliminate deuterium to some extent. This is shown by the fact that the deuterium concentration in the body is 20% lower than in nature and in drinking water. If deuterium were not harmful to the body, its concentration would probably be the same as in the surrounding environment.
Drinking deuterium-depleted water differs from antioxidant formulas, stimulants, vitamins and other anti-aging medicines in one key respect: this water does not change its chemical composition when it is digested. All the deuterium-depleted water consumed has a direct effect at the cellular level. However, for it to have a measurable impact, the existing deuterium must be removed from the body. This happens faster when the deuterium concentration in the drinking water is at a level considerably lower than in nature. Drinking deuterium-depleted water can protect DNA from errors and support its repair mechanisms. Therefore, drinking deuterium-depleted water can serve to protect the body and help it function more efficiently. The body does not become younger as a result of drinking deuterium-depleted water, but its preventive consumption contributes to maintaining the body’s overall state of well-being for longer, slowing down the aging process of the cells and therefore of the whole body.
